Couchbase (BASE) Reports Earnings Tomorrow. What To Expect

Database as a service company Couchbase (NASDAQ: BASE) will be announcing earnings results tomorrow after market close. Here's what to expect.

Last quarter Couchbase reported revenues of $34.8 million, up 24.6% year on year, beating analyst revenue expectations by 6.9%. It was a decent quarter for the company, with a solid beat of analyst estimates but a decline in gross margin.

This quarter analysts are expecting Couchbase's revenue to grow 20.7% year on year to $35.8 million, improving on the 18% year-over-year increase in revenue the company had recorded in the same quarter last year. Adjusted loss is expected to come in at -$0.28 per share.

Majority of analysts covering the company have reconfirmed their estimates over the last thirty days, suggesting they are expecting the business to stay the course heading into the earnings. The company has a history of exceeding Wall St's expectations, beating revenue estimates every single time since going public on average by 5.02%.

Looking at Couchbase's peers in the data storage segment, some of them have already reported Q2 earnings results, giving us a hint of what we can expect. DigitalOcean delivered top-line growth of 28.9% year on year, missing analyst estimates by 0.44% and MongoDB reported revenues up 52.7% year on year, exceeding estimates by 7.56%. Couchbase is down 17.8% during the same time, and is heading into the earnings with analyst price target of $21.8, compared to share price of $15.03.
