We think that the latest earnings result is only one piece of the bigger puzzle. If you’re deciding whether to own Redwire, you should also grasp the company’s longer-term business quality and valuation.
Redwire isn’t a terrible business, but it doesn’t pass our quality test. Although its revenue growth was exceptional over the last five years, it’s expected to deteriorate over the next 12 months and its relatively low ROIC suggests management has struggled to find compelling investment opportunities. And while the company’s backlog growth has been marvelous, the downside is its declining EPS over the last four years makes it a less attractive asset to the public markets.
Redwire’s EV-to-EBITDA ratio based on the next 12 months is 38.8x. This valuation tells us it’s a bit of a market darling with a lot of good news priced in - you can find more timely opportunities elsewhere.
