The market seemed to be hoping for more, and the stock traded down 7.4% to $10.51 immediately following the results.

14. Is Now The Time To Buy Flowers Foods?

Before investing in or passing on Flowers Foods, we urge you to understand the company’s business quality (or lack thereof), valuation, and the latest quarterly results - in that order.

We see the value of companies helping consumers, but in the case of Flowers Foods, we’re out. To kick things off, its revenue growth was uninspiring over the last three years, and analysts expect its demand to deteriorate over the next 12 months. While its gross margins are a strong starting point for the overall profitability of the business, the downside is its declining EPS over the last three years makes it a less attractive asset to the public markets. On top of that, its projected EPS for the next year is lacking.

Flowers Foods’s P/E ratio based on the next 12 months is 12x. While this valuation is reasonable, we don’t see a big opportunity at the moment. There are better investments elsewhere.

Wall Street analysts have a consensus one-year price target of $13 on the company (compared to the current share price of $11.12).
